Downriver Homestead is a multigenerational micro homestead

on the banks of Otter Creek in Ferrisburgh, Vermont. Our mission

is to feed our family and friends while building soil, preserving our

waterways, protecting our pollinators, and sharing the bounty of Vermont.

We have just over 1 acre of high river bank on the Lower Otter Creek, a short boat trip from Lake Champlain. Surrounded by farmland, our micro homestead balances cultivated areas with minimally managed swaths for wildlife habitat. We maintain a variety of perennial plantings; berries, currents, roses, pears, cherries, and more!

We also maintain a kitchen garden for vegetables, multiple flower beds, and a host of laying/pet/spoiled chickens to provide us with eggs and entertainment. Joining them for the last two years have been two crops of pastured meat chickens. These are birds we raise from chicks, then graze around our grassy areas inside of a movable electric fence. They are harvested and processed on site by us, our friends, and family

You can often find Andrea fiddling with her bees in the apiary. Our bees provide us with honey, wax, and endless entertainment.
